Of the 34 confirmed cases recorded by the agency as of September 4, five were hospitalized and there were no reports of deaths from the new variant.

The agency said that among the total cases, 28 people were infected at a nursing home in Norfolk.

The United Kingdom’s Health Security Agency discovered the first infection with the PA 2.86 mutant version of the Covid-19 virus in the country last month in a person who had not traveled recently.

A few days ago, the World Health Organization warned of “worrying trends” in Covid-19 disease before the onset of winter in the northern hemisphere, calling for increased vaccination and monitoring operations.

World Health Organization Director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in an online press conference, “We are still seeing worrying trends for Covid-19 ahead of the winter season in the Northern Hemisphere… Deaths are increasing in some parts of the Middle East and Asia, and admissions to intensive care units are increasing in Europe.” Hospital admissions are increasing in several regions.

He explained that only 43 countries, which is less than a quarter of the 194 member states of the World Health Organization, report deaths resulting from Covid-19 to the organization, and only 20 countries send it information about cases that require hospitalization.
