Outlook for Mac gets a redesign and is now 100% free

A Microsoft today announced a redesigned version of the Outlook for Macwhich now also runs natively on machines equipped with chips from Apple. In addition, according to the Windows developer, Apple computer owners no longer need to pay to use their email client.

The new version of the app comes with news specifically designed for macOS users. One of them is support for Handoff with iOS, allowing the user to start composing a message on their iPhone and finish on their Mac (and vice versa).

Outlook also now has support for widgets, allows the user to access some quick information — like the calendar, for example — through the menu bar (coming soon) and sends reminders to the user in the Notification Center from macOS. In addition, Microsoft has also promised to add compatibility with the feature Focus which, in turn, will work with future outlook profiles.

As with iOS, the Outlook app for macOS is compatible not only with Microsoft’s email service, but also with Gmail, iCloud, Yahoo! and IMAP accounts. In addition, the app continues to separate messages in the inbox between “Highlights” and “Others” and has the same gestures as the mobile version.

Outlook for macOS, as mentioned, is completely free and is already available for download in the Mac App Store and on this page from Microsoft itself. The app requires macOS Big Sur 11 or higher to install.
