Boss fobs John off after 42 years, then colleagues intervene

There was no gift for John, especially not money.
My work colleagues found this unfair.
John worked for the same company for 42 years. As the over 70 year old recently to retire went, his employer organized a barbecue party and gave the loyal employee a certificate – nothing more. “No bonus,” said his work colleague Sonia angrily. She used a Tiktok video to draw attention to a fundraiser for John. Then her clip went viral.
The senior citizen commuted 40 minutes a day to work for minimum wage for more than four decades, Sonia says in her video. As a thank you for his service and loyalty, he was “rewarded with a measly barbecue” when he retired.
For his work colleagues, this recognition for John and his commitment to the company is not enough. Many of these people have known the man for over 30 years – they have no understanding of so much injustice. The video footage shows the man working in a warehouse. The name of the company is not known, Sonia’s video reached almost 400,000 people in just a few hours.
John receives 33,500 francs as a gift
John is an extremely talented and hard-working employee. “His energy is unsurpassed,” writes the dismayed colleague on the GoFundMe page she launched. «Can we give John something more for his retirement? He has neither a wife nor children, but a nephew whom he loves more than anything. It would be nice to give him a little company or do something to let him know he’s special and loved.”
Her words touched many people, because shortly after Sonia posted her video, 36,504 dollars (around 33,500 francs) had already been raised. When the money collected far exceeded John’s pension fund contribution, she deactivated accepting donations.
«All the best in your retirement, John. “You deserve more than what this company offered you,” wrote one donor. “It’s an honor to contribute to your retirement,” another person commented.
