Big stage for Johannes, Veronika and Elisabeth Aigner – while the two sisters received a “Breakthrough Award”, Johannes was happy about the “Rising Star” award. The 18-year-old has two great seasons behind him: double gold at the 2022 Paralympic Winter Games in Beijing (China) and medals in all disciplines, World Cup titles, World Cup series victories and the overall World Cup.

“It was an amazing year for me, I’m proud of what we achieved. It’s nice to see that my achievements were also perceived that way by the jury,” said Aigner, who will be going on snow for the first time next week – with a new guide. “Hansi” and Nico Haberl made their first appearance together on “Sports Day” in Vienna’s Prater. “The summer preparation was good, the form is right – we really pushed it together. Now it’s about fine-tuning so that we are as coordinated as possible.”

“Award is a mission and motivation”

In her role as guide, Elisabeth Aigner accepted the “Breakthrough Award” on behalf of her sister Veronika. The sister act celebrated double gold in the technical disciplines and an international breakthrough after a serious injury at the 2022 Paralympics in Beijing (CHN) and at the 2023 Alpine World Ski Championships in Espot (ESP).

Glorious reception for the Aigner ski family

“Thank you to everyone who voted for us and congratulations to all the winners. We live and love our sport and are happy to share the successes and emotions as siblings and as a family and to be there for each other even in difficult situations. This award is both a mission and a motivation, because we both still have a lot to do,” the 2026 Winter Paralympics in Milan and Cortina (ITA) are the next big goal.

The President of the Austrian Paralympic Committee (ÖPC) Maria Rauch-Kallat and ÖPC General Secretary Petra Huber traveled together with the Aigner siblings to Bahrain, where the PARA SPORT Awards 2023 were presented in a total of ten categories on Wednesday evening. The prestigious prize has been awarded by the International Paralympic Committee since 2005 – with the Aigner siblings there are prize winners from Austria for the first time.
