He fought for a long time after a serious fall, but now he is drawing a final line: Bozner ski racer Alexander Prast announced the end of his career on Thursday.

It was on December 12, 2020: Alexander Prast had a serious fall at the World Cup Super-G in Val d’Isere – it was to be his last World Cup race.

“After this crash, my life changed in a millisecond,” writes the Bolzano on Instagram. The diagnosis was devastating: Total damage to the right knee. Shocking news in his first season with a fixed World Cup starting place. Although he was always in the best hands during the operations, he knew “that it will be a long and difficult road to regain physical form”.

Every little step forward gave him more hope and energy. “But over the last few months, my knee has been telling me that it can no longer withstand all this intense strain. That’s why I came to the conclusion that health is more important to me than performance,” emphasizes the 26-year-old. Skiing was his passion.

“I love the speed, the adrenaline, the competition and also the risk of pushing myself to the limit.”

“I love the speed, the adrenaline, the competition and also the risk of pushing myself to the limit,” says the Bolzano athlete. It is difficult for him to stop playing sports and to give up his dreams. “But when your body forces you to do it, it makes the decision easier. It’s been a long process to get to this point, but it feels 100 percent right,” writes Prast.

As a ski racer, he did not achieve all of his goals in ski racing, “but I have made many great memories and friends”. Above all, thanks go to his family, but also to sponsors, coaches, friends and the medical team.

“It’s no reason to be sad. To be honest, I’m excited for what’s next. Every path is different, and if that’s my path, then I’ll go it. As the saying goes, when one door closes, another opens. Well then, let’s go”, explains Prast in conclusion.
