Overkill?! Android smartphones with 32 GB of RAM are already being tested

2023-09-06 06:18:00

O launch of Android smartphones with 32 GB of RAM may happen in the not-too-distant future. According to Digital Chat Station, there are already manufacturers testing devices with this capability.

That is, if you already thought the launch of devices with 24 GB of RAM was overkill, things can escalate even more in 2024.

DCS still does not inform the brand that will be the first to use 32 GB of RAM in a smartphone, but most likely we are talking regarding a Chinese one.

That’s because the BBK group was one of the first to use 24 GB of RAM in their devices, such as the OnePlus Ace 2 Pro or the realme GT 5 Pro.

In addition to surpassing the capacity of many notebooks or MacBooks, 32 GB of RAM is something that will certainly not be used by the average smartphone user.

Still, the most plausible explanation behind this rapid advancement in the segment involves a possible use of AI in Android and even other apps.

LLM (Large Language Models) requires a significant amount of RAM for local processing.

In any case, as we still don’t have major manufacturers – Samsung, Xiaomi and Apple – embarking on “the wave” of RAM exaggeration, everything is still pure marketing to sell smartphones in China.

What do you think of this scenario? Is 24 GB or 32 GB really necessary? Tell us your opinion here in the comments field.

The OnePlus Ace 2 Pro is not yet available in Brazilian stores. To be notified when it arrives.
