Oxygen Green lives a dispute with Humberto de La Calle and Daniel Carvalho – Political Parties – Politics

Humbert of the Street y Daniel Carvalhosenator and representative elected by the Green Oxygen party, announced last July 14 that they will assume a position of independence from the incoming government.

Both requested through a public statement that “internal democracy” be guaranteed in the community, although the former presidential candidate and party leader, Ingrid Betancourthad declared weeks ago in opposition to the incoming government of Gustavo Petro.

It transpired that, after a deliberation process, both were expelled from the community. This was confirmed by Betancourt. With this determination, the party loses its representation in Congress.

“As a consequence of this decision and as a proposal from the coordinator of the party in the Caribbean, the political expulsion of the two elected congressmen, Humberto de la Calle and Daniel Carvalho, due to their incompatibilities with the principles of this community. During the Assembly, both expressed their opposition to the decisions and actions of the PVO and mentioned their interest in being free now,” the community said in a statement.

For his part, representative Daniel Carvalho replied: “We were expelled from the Oxygen Green Party through an assembly plagued with violations of the law and the party’s own statutes. A decision that we do not consider legitimate. It was intended to approve anti-democratic statutes and impose decisions on congressmen.”

The dispute in the Oxygen Green

This matter generated quite a stir within the revived community, as De la Calle and Carvalho filed a tutela to stop a general assembly that the party held today, July 16.

“Humberto de la Calle and Daniel Carvalho know that majorities of the PVO (Green Oxygen Party) want to declare themselves in opposition, yet they carry out a coup de force to take over the PVO without consulting or following procedures. The PVO is not only them, we are more. To settle differences there are the Statutes and not the de facto routes, “Betancourt said through his Twitter account.

In response, the senator elected with the endorsement of the Oxygen Green party, Humberto de la Calle, responded: “The statutes say to date that it is the power of the Congressional Committee to ‘define by vote the political position of the Party’s caucus in Congress’ That vote was carried out yesterday (July 14) by Daniel Carvalho and I, elected congressmen.”

For his part, Carvalho assured that they filed the guardianship to “protect our political rights against the Oxygen Green Party.” In addition, the elected representative mentioned that he and De la Calle are “caught between the impossibility of agreeing on fair means.”

“Ingrid has ignored the different attempts at conciliation and conversation. Then, she announces her intention to be part of the opposition to the Petro government, a party decision that can only be made by elected congressmen, who today declared independence,” Carvalho argued. .

Along these lines, legislator De la Calle asserted that an “arbitrariness” has become evident in the community of Verde Oxígeno, which in his opinion “cannot become a norm.” “Carvalho and I represent more than 230,000 Colombians who voted for us. That will must be respected,” said the former mediator leader with the extinct FARC.

“There are people who were candidates on the list and today they are not recognized as members of the Oxygen Green party nor do they have the opportunity to participate. Where is the internal democracy,” added De la Calle through his Twitter account.

For now, the issue that has transpired is the discussion over the statement made by both congressmen, indicating that in the new period that begins in Congress, they will adopt an independent position. An issue that does not agree with the position expressed by Betancourt and the majority of his party who are in opposition to the Petro government.
