Padres “suddenly rises” to Shohei Otani’s transfer destination.

NY newspaper says the army is “listening for the first time” to Otani’s offer

Will the Angels release Shohei Ohtani? With the trade deadline on August 2nd (Japan time 3rd) amidst various speculations, Ken Rosenthal of the American sports media “The Athletic” reported that the Padres had asked about Ohtani. The New York Post also reports that the Angels are beginning to listen to trade offers.

According to Rosenthal’s article in The Athletic, sources said the Padres had contacted their respective teams about Ohtani and Athletics pitcher Frankie Montas. In the article, rookie Mackenzie Gore is out due to injury, Sean Manair continues to pitch unstable, and Manair, Joe Musgrove, and Mike Clevinger may be FAs off now. I’m guessing they need a pitcher. GM AJ Preller also said, “I like to go after big names.”

The New York Post published an article by John Heyman and Joel Sherman, who are also known as talented reporters. The Angels said the chances of them accepting a trade for Ohtani were “very low”, but said they were “perhaps listening for the first time” to offers from other teams. The name of the team is unknown, but the team that is likely to inquire is Nationals outfielder Juan Soto, “It will be a team that is trying to acquire,” including the Rangers, Dodgers, Cardinals, and Mariners. He also reportedly told executives at other clubs that the Angels wanted top four prospects in return.
