Painter David Hockney puts on an immersive exhibition
The first-ever immersive exhibition by British painter David Hockney opened in London on Wednesday, offering attendees a multi-sensory experience revolving around the artist’s decades-long work.
“The world is really amazing if you look at it,” says the 85-year-old painter, in explanations at the exhibition, along with recordings from the archives, but “most people don’t.”
Richard Slane, director of the Lightroom where the exhibition is being held, told AFP that at the age of 85, Hockney, who is still doing work, entered the field of full immersion performance, adding that he was “always innovative and pushing boundaries”.
The exhibition project, which runs until June 4, was sparked by an email Richard Slaney sent to David Hockney proposing a collaboration.
Attendees in the hall experienced a 50-minute show that combines virtual reality with audio and visual immersion techniques.
The show featured works by Hockney and other painters that had rarely been shown before.
“I am a person who likes to draw … I like to look at things,” Hockney said in one of the recordings.
