Pakistan blew half a billion dollars on the import of mobile phones – Business & Economy

Pakistan imported mobile phones worth $1.301 billion during the first 9 months (July-March) of the current fiscal year 2023-24, which is 181.26 percent higher than $462.7 billion during the same period of the previous fiscal year.

According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, Pakistan’s mobile phone imports decreased by 4.87 percent on a monthly basis in March 2024 to $153.051 million compared to imports of $160.90 million in February 2024.

Mobile phone imports grew by 930.92% year-on-year in March 2024 from $14.846 million in March 2023.

Mobile phone prices in Pakistan reduced by thousands of rupees

Total telecom imports in the country during July-March 2023-24 stood at $1.623 billion, as against $744.971 million during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, recording a growth of 117.90 percent.

According to the report, on year-on-year basis, total telecom imports increased by 422.58%. Imports stood at $189.042 million in March 2024 as against $36.175 million in March 2023.

On a month-on-month basis, total telecom imports declined by 1.13% in March 2024, from $191.201 million during February 2024.
