Dubai: Pakistan, which was to host the 2023 Asia Cup cricket, suffered a setback. There are reports that the Asia Cup may be shifted from Pakistan to Sri Lanka.
Pakistan’s application was rejected by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). Pakistan had plans to hold the Asia Cup in a hybrid model. According to reports, ACC did not accept this. Instead of Pakistan, Sri Lanka is now leading the way to be the venue. Six countries are competing in the Asia Cup.
The Asia Cup will be held from September 2 to 17. Pakistan has planned to hold the Asia Cup on its own soil and in the UAE. Indian players are not allowed to play in Pakistan. So Pakistan planned to hold India’s matches in UAE. But the report indicates that the ACC has stated that it will be very hot in the UAE in September and this will adversely affect the players.
Various media also reported that there is a possibility of Pakistan withdrawing from the Asia Cup. The ACC has not yet officially confirmed the change of venue. ACC Chairman Jai Shah will soon clarify the matter.
