Palworld Developers Clarify Scope of Upcoming 1.1 Update

Palworld publishing lead John “Bucky” Buckley found out the hard way that asking a massive online community for content suggestions can lead to an overwhelming avalanche of wild expectations. Following the successful Palworld 1.0 launch, Buckley took to social media to thank players and gauge interest on future additions, only to be hit with 1,700 replies filled with monumental demands.

The developer quickly clarified that while the team appreciates community engagement, fans should temper their expectations for the upcoming Palworld 1.1 update. Rather than a sprawling expansion packing years of heavy labor, the studio intends to keep the scope grounded as it plots the next phase of the monster-taming survival game.

Buckley addressed the community feedback in a follow-up post, admitting he “shot myself in the foot here, 1.7k comments later.” He explained that suggestions such as adding an entirely new continent, introducing 20 additional level caps, or similarly gargantuan undertakings do not align with what the development team envisions for version 1.1.

“Open to ideas but, we’re not planning to spend a year making a massive update for 1.1,” Buckley stated on X.

The developer’s caution comes on the heels of major structural shifts for the title. Pocketpair previously outlined plans to bring the game out of early access in 2026, targeting a comprehensive 1.0 overhaul designed to refine early, middle, and endgame progression. Speaking at the Game Developers Conference, Buckley described the 1.0 milestone as an effort to deliver the definitive survival crafting experience that “everyone always wanted.”

Understanding the Scope of Patch Additions

To better understand what Pocketpair considers realistic for near-term patches like version 1.1, players can look to a recent Palworld patch that made building bases over water a lot easier and let players earn World Tree Holy Water through expeditions rather than just farming.

These measured enhancements stand in sharp contrast to community wishlist items like entire map expansions or massive level tier increases. According to team communications, massive regional expansions and major tier leaps are concepts better suited for a hypothetical future release, such as a potential Palworld 2.0.

Balancing Community Ambition With Development Realities

The dialogue between Pocketpair and its player base highlights the unique challenges faced by developers of breakout multiplayer hits. Since its early 2024 debut, which saw the monster-taming survival game sell roughly 25 million copies in its first 18 months alongside more than 7 million players on Xbox Game Pass, the community has maintained an appetite for fresh content.

At the same time, the studio continues to diversify the franchise. Pocketpair is scheduled to receive a physical card game later in 2026.

As the team regroups following its major milestones, players can expect future patches to focus on targeted improvements. Fans are encouraged to share their feedback in community forums as Pocketpair continues to shape the roadmap for the game’s ongoing support cycle.
