“As I have not missed any battle, so I will not miss this one either.”
With these simple, but clear words, Nikos Papadimatos explained his acceptance of the offer made to him to head the Electoral Campaign Committee of New Democracy in Achaia.
“No one is forcing you. Dealing with the public is an internal need, a duty” the former MP commented to “P” and tried to approach what the priorities are in view of the European elections: “Each electoral contest has its own facts. I believe that we should always discuss the issues of Europe. The European elections should not be a field of confrontation for what concerns the purely Greek area. We have to realize everything that is happening around us in Ukraine, the Middle East, Iran and China, we have to look at immigration, agricultural policy, the single foreign policy, the lack of a European army, etc. All this must be implemented, otherwise the EU will be led on a downward course, on a decadent trajectory”.
N. Papadimatos also described the battle plan of the DEEP Achaia of the SW: “We will go to the last village, we will plow the whole Prefecture of Achaia and we will try to answer the questions of the citizens, but also to inform them about what is happening in Europe”.
Regarding the ND’s leaks to its right, he himself was categorical: “The ND has never had a problem on the right. The problem began to present itself to us – but ultimately it was good for us in order to clear the chaff from the wheat – when the Golden Dawn appeared. For years it was convenient for some to put us in the same sack and label us fascists, etc. Right now in the political scene there are two parameters that we have to take into account as ND: The first is abstinence, depoliticization, which will break out somewhere at some point. And the second is the flight of many traditional New Democrats, romantic rightists, further right of the ND. Not everyone left for no reason. They know why they left. Some were bitter, some were angry. Something bothered them. However, we must bring this world back into our arms. It does not work in favor of our party to articulate a reason for expulsion or to justify the unjustifiable. If we don’t bring back the one who is leaving, he will take others with him. The world is not a herd to scare, to blackmail. The world wants to talk, methodically and honestly, so that our old allies can join us again. Many times in the past we had differences. And there have always been and will always be the arrogant, the arrogant, the self-centered, the sleazeballs. At the time of the match, however, the banner is one.”
