The Australian group Qantas finalized an additional order of nine A220-300bringing its order book for this single-aisle aircraft to 29 aircraft.

The A220 was originally selected by the Australian flag carrier as part of a major fleet replacement program announced in May 2022, which also included orders forA321XLR and D’A350-1000. Qantas announced in February its intention to order additional A220s from this year’s Project Winton, finalizing them on June 20, 2023 at the Paris Air Show. Qantas will receive its first A220-300, configured to accommodate 10 passengers in Business Class and 127 in Economy, “at the end of this year, and will operate it primarily on its extensive domestic route network”.

Christian Scherer, Airbus Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Airbus International, said: We are delighted to announce this additional order from Qantas. Best in class, the A220 will be the ideal platform for its domestic network comprising short flights as well as flights of five hours and more. By combining efficiency, comfort and greater range, the A220 will contribute from day one to the airline’s comprehensive climate action plan ».

Airbus has received nearly 800 orders from 30 customers for the A220, of which 265 have been delivered. The A220 is already in service with 16 airlines worldwide.
