Paris: One of the world’s major tourist attractions, the Eiffel Tower in Paris was closed on Wednesday due to a strike by its employees. The strike began on the 100th anniversary of the death of Gustaf Eiffel, the architect of the tower.
CGT, a left-wing labor union, said that the strike is in protest against the way the tower is being managed. said in a statement. The strike is pending contract negotiations between workers and Paris city officials. It is unclear how long the tower will be closed.
Around 20,000 tourists visit the Eiffel Tower every day of the year at Christmas and New Year.
