The parents of a seven-year-old girl who sustained life-changing injuries during the November 2023 attack on Parnell Square in Dublin have announced the birth of a new baby. The family, who have remained in the public eye only through official updates regarding their daughter’s recovery, shared the news as a moment of joy following an extended period of trauma.
The seven-year-old was one of three children injured during the stabbing incident outside Gaelscoil Choláiste Mhuire on November 23, 2023. She spent several months in Temple Street Children’s Hospital receiving intensive care and neurological treatment after suffering serious head injuries in the attack. Her recovery has been documented by her family via a public fundraising page, which has served as the primary channel for updates on her condition since the event.
In a recent update posted to the GoFundMe page established to assist with her ongoing medical and rehabilitative needs, her parents described the birth of their new child as a “ray of light” for the family. The update noted that the girl continues to undergo a complex rehabilitation process, requiring consistent medical intervention and support as she navigates the long-term effects of her injuries.
The Parnell Square incident triggered widespread public concern and led to significant unrest in Dublin city centre on the evening of the attack. In the immediate aftermath, the girl’s family consistently requested privacy, while simultaneously providing periodic, measured updates to the thousands of donors who contributed to her medical fund.
Riad Bouchaker, 50, remains before the courts in connection with the attack. He faces a series of charges, including the attempted murder of the seven-year-old and two other children, as well as the assault of a care worker who intervened during the incident. The legal proceedings are currently ongoing, with the case moving through the Central Criminal Court.
The family’s update on the new addition to their household comes as the girl continues to reach what her parents have described as “small but significant milestones” in her neurological recovery. Despite the challenges of the past 16 months, the family stated that the arrival of the baby has provided a necessary focus on the future.
The case remains subject to strict reporting restrictions regarding the identities of the child victims to protect their privacy as the judicial process continues. Further hearings in the criminal trial are scheduled to determine the progression of the charges against the accused.
