A Clinical Porsche Lockout Set the Stage
The foundation for Wehrlein’s triumph was laid during a dramatic qualifying session that showcased pure manufacturer execution. Both factory Porsche machines locked out the final duel, where teammate Nico Müller lifted off the throttle in the final sector to hand the pole position to Wehrlein. That tactical luxury, paired with Dan Ticktum starting on the second row in the customer Kiro Porsche alongside title contender Mitch Evans, gave the German squad a dream grid layout.
Wehrlein capitalized immediately, sweeping into Turn 1 unhindered as the compact London indoor-outdoor circuit hosted a surprisingly clean start. Within a single lap, the Porsche driver carved out a three-second cushion. Müller slotted directly into the role of strategic buffer, expertly holding up Evans and the rest of the chasing pack through the tight, twisting confines of the ExCeL layout.

Müller’s defensive driving drew fierce criticism from deep inside the Jaguar garage. Wehrlein heads into Sunday’s final showdown holding a five-point advantage over Dennis, with a maximum of 29 points still on the table. Meanwhile, a difficult day for Evans—finishing eighth—and Oliver Rowland—taking tenth—effectively mathematically eliminated them from the championship crown.
