Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes limped into the locker room at halftime of the 2023 Super Bowl against the Philadelphia Eagles, setting off alarm bells for the team in the NFL championship game.
Mahomes was tackled by linebacker TJ Edwards, leaving the field in obvious pain.
The NFL MVP winner sprained his ankle in the LA Divisional Round against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and has been under care ever since. Although the quarterback declared before the game that his ankle was fine, it is no less true that he has been playing injured since the game against the Jaguars.
Mahomes, 27, fell two votes away from being unanimously chosen as Most Valuable Player for the 2022-23 season, after receiving 48 of the 50 possible votes for first place (98%). The remaining two were shared by Jalen Hurts, as leader of the Eagles, and Josh Allen, quarterback of the Buffalo Bills.
Mahomes finished the season with a career-high 5,250 passing yards, adding 41 touchdown passes and 12 interceptions, while also rushing for 364 yards and four touchdowns.
