In decline since the 1980s, payment by check nevertheless continues to resist in France. Indeed, unlike other European countries, a French person issues on average 37 checks per year and per person, compared to 11 for a British person. French checks still represent more than 70% of all checks issued in Europe. Despite this longevity, preconceived ideas persist regarding its use.
