INNOVATION in the use of sports science, technology and big data is the choice of the Central Management of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PP PBSI) so that Indonesia remains at the top of the world badminton stage.

“Now the trend is in that direction. There is sports science, video analysis technology, databases. We cannot be left behind,” stressed Fadil.

According to Fadil, a player’s talent is the basic capital. Then it must be developed with a modern approach, namely the application of sports science.

“We have started, and slowly but surely we will see the results on this European tour,” said Fadil, commenting on the results of the 2024 Swiss Open final which has just ended.

In the Super 300 event, Indonesia won the title in women’s doubles through Lanny Tria Mayasari/Ribka Sugiarto, as well as runner-up in men’s doubles from Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Bagas Maulana, and women’s singles from Gregoria Mariska Tunjung. This achievement complements previous achievements at the All England and Orleans Masters.

Fadil continued, the application of sports science will produce training patterns that are measurable and tailor-made and can be monitored in real time.

“We can no longer say, person A is playing badly, person B is not fit. What size? “Here the importance of performance analysis is providing quantitative and real time data,” he explained.

According to Fadil, the busy tournament schedule throughout the year requires athletes to receive a measurable program of training, competition, physiotherapy, nutrition and recovery so that their performance can be stable. “The program is designed for each individual, because no one is the same,” added Fadil, who is also Secretary General of PP PBSI.

The innovation chosen by PP PBSI, continued Fadil, involved experienced experts from a number of leading campuses. Professor Nicolaas C Budhiparama, a specialist in orthopedics and traumatology who graduated from Leiden University, Netherlands, is the medical director of the Paris 2024 Olympic team. He leads the team of doctors, nutritionists, physiotherapy and masseurs.

In the field of sports psychology, Professor Hamdi Muluk and Professor M Enoch Markum. Also involved were two former national athletes, Lilik Sudarwati (badminton), and M Nanang Himawan Kusuma (athletics), who is now an academic in the field of sports. (Dhk/R-1)
