In Bari the rift between the Pd and M5s seems without a solution. The primaries scheduled for tomorrow in the city to choose the center-left mayoral candidate, as recalled via social media by Vito Leccese, have been canceled “due to a unilateral decision of the movements that support the opposing candidate” , Michele Laforgia. The reference is obviously to Giuseppe Conte’s Movement which, although not expressly named in the Facebook post, is targeted by the candidate supported by the Dems: “Someone is using the city of Bari for their own electoral gain”. Which in the end, the reasoning goes, could favor the centre-right. A risk highlighted by Elly Schlein who again via social media relaunched her intervention in favor of Leccese, recalling that “we have always worked for unity and we will continue to do so, and we will support Vito even if he wants to attempt dialogue again to find a unitary solution, but without accepting any imposition”. Schlein’s reading, however, is contested by the Count: “Today, saying that the M5S favors the right is a sick, flawed reasoning. But perhaps it is the political scandals, when they also exist on this side, that favor the right.” “I cannot understand – he adds – why internal tensions, fratricidal struggles between current leaders and leaders within the Democratic Party must be vented onto the M5S. I do not allow this because the Movement believes that legality and transparency are not negotiable in front of anyone “.

The former prime minister, guest of the show ‘Accordi&Disaccordi’, recalls having waited for “months for another name from Bari’s civil society” but “the only name on which the Democratic Party clung” was that of Bari’s chief of staff Decaro. And regarding the primaries, he highlights that “we are not equipped to compete, the Democratic Party would always win them”. At this point it seems difficult, if not impossible, to arrive at a unified solution to recompose the wide field. “Desperately looking for a third candidate? Meanwhile, on the opposite front, the right could announce its candidate shortly. On the table there would be the names of the deputy minister of Justice Francesco Paolo Sisto, for Forza Italia, and of the senator of Fratelli d’Italia, Filippo Melchiorre. Yet Matteo Salvini, expected tomorrow morning in Bari for an event organized by the League, seems to open up to an alternative solution: “I hope that after years on the left with Decaro and Emiliano, the centre-right, hopefully led by the League, will also win in Bari”. The certainty for the deputy prime minister is that “the divisions are all on the other side with Conte and Schlein giving each other a thorough beating. But let’s not wait for the mistakes of others to win. Let’s look at our own home.”
