The Investigative Police reported to the Public Ministry an audio broadcast in the last hours through social networks that it would give an account of situations supposedly that occurred during the raid on Mapuche communities in the Ercilla commune, La Araucanía region, where one of the officials threatened a girl with death.
In the complete recording, which lasts 5 minutes and 46 seconds, various noises can be heard attributable to gunshots, the voice of a minor and that of some adults. After a few moments he would arrive at the personal place of the PDI.
“On the ground”, repeatedly shouts one of the people accused of being PDI. He yells at the girl “in batting”, and then she begins to scream and sob, while he shouts louder “DE GUATA!” While the youngest continues crying.
Before the cry of the minor, the subject yells even louder “SHUT UP! Stay there”, while another says “look at the ground”. After that, one of the two told him: “You move, I kill you conchatumare (sic)”.
Then a few minutes pass where apparently the situation calms down and the minor begins to speak to an adult woman who recognizes her and calls her name. While crying, she explains that they threatened her with death, pray that they don’t come back, that they don’t go looking for their father and “don’t do anything to him Lord (praying), I just came to look.”
After that, apparently a vehicle arrives at the place where they get on and tells another minor who was there: “Mine told me that he was going to kill me,” to which the other voice replies: “They told me like ”.
From the PDI, through a statement, they briefly stated: “In relation to audios circulating on social networks (…) regarding possible threats to minors in an alleged police procedure, It is reported that it was ordered that these events be reported by the institution itself to the Public Ministry, in order to establish their veracity, place, date, time and if it corresponds to a PDI procedure ”.
On the other hand, during the same day, the Children’s Ombudsman pointed out that they are gathering information “to evaluate the corresponding actions, according to our powers.”
Meanwhile, deputy Leonardo Soto pointed out on his Twitter account that the record “is shocking. No country that claims to be democratic can accept it. It is urgent that the Government prove its authenticity and, if so, apply the maximum penalties. Everything that Espinosa (director of the PDI) assured would be called into question ”.
Meanwhile, from the political sidewalk, deputies and deputies of the Broad Front have sent official letters to investigate the situation.
For example, the parliamentary bench of Social Convergence (CS) officiated the Minister of the Interior, Rodrigo Delgado; the director of the PDI, Héctor Espinosa; and to the Defender for Children, Patricia Muñoz, to clarify the veracity of the audio.
In the document, the congressmen ask the aforementioned authorities to inform which were the protocols in force at the time of the execution of the operation; and if these standards were actually met; verifying the audiovisual records that were made during the operation. In addition, parliamentarians demand to know the measures contemplated by these organizations to repair the affected communities, and implement changes in the action protocols that guide law enforcement officers, especially with regard to the treatment of children and adolescents. .
In this regard, the president of Social Convergence, Alondra Arellano, pointed out that “if its veracity is verified, we will seek the political and police responsibilities behind it, because we cannot normalize or allow the violation of the human rights of girls, boys and girls. teenagers. It is unacceptable that this type of action is becoming more and more recurrent by the police in their procedures ”.
For her part, the Deputy for Commons, Claudia Mix, sent a letter to the Minister of the Interior, Rodrigo Delgado, and to the Undersecretary of the Interior, Juan Francisco Galli. The parliamentarian asked both to send detailed information on the occurrence of these events and to clarify what happened.
“The broadcast audio is terrible. We demand that the Government and, specifically, the Ministry of the Interior clarify as soon as possible what happened and indicate whether indeed the threats were made by an official of the PDI in the raid in Temucucui carried out last week. If so, we hope there will be sanctions, “said the parliamentarian.
He added that “unfortunately the attacks reported in the audio are not isolated situations. We have already seen the images of the brutal detention suffered by Wacolda, a 7-year-old girl, in the proceedings in Temucucui, which was carried out on the same day as the reading of the sentence for the murder of her father. In 2018 I participated in the forum ‘Violent childhood in the Wallmapu’ and the testimonies I heard there were heartbreaking. The Government has to take action on the matter. No more repression of the Mapuche people and no more state violence against children and adolescents.
