Peak day sweeping Tet goods at supermarkets

On the first evening of the holiday (January 19), people flocked to supermarkets in Hanoi to shop, causing many food items and dry goods on the shelves to be empty and scattered, staff did not have time to replenish.

End of the last working day of the year, for many people this is the time to start shopping for Tet. The hallway leading to BigC Thang Long Supermarket was full of people. Because the area inside is too crowded, customers have to pick up baskets and carts from outside the door of the 1st floor near the trolley parking lot to get in.

The area selling fruit and fresh food is bustling with customers. At the apple stall, everyone picked it up, put it down, carefully selected the beautiful fruits that were not defective, to use during many New Year’s days.

The sisters crowded around to choose candies, jellies, and sweets that were arranged by families to invite guests during Tet.

Tet is also the biggest food hoarding occasion of the year because of the holidays with few openings for sale. As a result, the carts are stocked with everything from dry food to fresh produce. Some families have to use 2-3 cars at a time to choose goods.

It is not difficult to see the image of messy goods on the shelves, while the replenishment cart is left beside for customers to choose.

With great purchasing power, the candy and dried goods stalls were swept away, leaving only empty boxes.

Although the stock was constantly replenished by staff, many shelves remained empty, some items were spilled.

Just started shopping at the supermarket, Ms. Thanh (Dong Da district) immediately went to the candy display area. “Because my family has many young children, I always buy sweets every year. I prefer packaged products instead of buying by weight, but because I’m late, I have less choice,” she shared.

As the evening went on, the fruit and vegetable shelves became empty.

Stalls of green vegetables scattered a few types lying around. This is a good food for the day when you have to eat a lot of meat, so it is “welcome”.

Despite the large purchasing power, the items still keep their prices stable, even with many promotions. In the photo, the price of yogurt has been reduced from 7,900 VND/box to 6,100 VND/box, which has been “scratched” by most of the customers.

Taking on the role of shopping for Tet goods on the first evening off work, Mr. Cuong (Tay Ho district) could only choose beer because he couldn’t squeeze into the confectionery stall. “I guess I’ll have to go back to shopping with my wife tomorrow morning,” he laughed.
