More than 6,000 Maritime Electric customers in Queens County, Prince Edward Island, experienced a power outage Saturday morning, according to the utility. The outage affected communities including Clyde River, Rice Point, Canoe Cove, Emyvale, Riverdale, Kingston and surrounding areas.

Maritime Electric announced via Facebook that the cause of the outage had been identified. Power was fully restored to all affected customers by early afternoon, the utility confirmed.

The outage and subsequent restoration occurred as a separate power outage was reported across Queens County, New York, according to reporting from CBC News.

Jenna Legge, a journalist with CBC in Prince Edward Island, reported on the incident. Legge previously worked as a reporter in Ottawa, Winnipeg, and Toronto, and holds a master’s degree in international journalism from City University of London, as well as degrees in journalism, law and political science from Carleton University.
