A barber who cut the hair of the late Brazilian legend Pele for decades said he hoped God would have mercy on the soccer star.
Pele, the only man to win the FIFA World Cup three times as a player, died on Thursday at the age of 82 after a struggle with colon cancer.
“He used to come to cut his hair twice a month and shave his beard once every two days,” said Joao Araujo, who said he met Pele for the first time in 1956 or 1957 in his shop in Santos, where there are many memorabilia related to the late star.
He added that he last met Pele last year.
“(I hope) God will have mercy on him,” he continued.
