The 14th day of mobilization against the pension reform, which was held on Tuesday, was marked by the lowest level of participation since the start of the social movement, according to figures from the authorities such as those from the unions. More than a month after the demonstrations of May 1, the processions were more scattered than ever, everywhere in France.
More than 900,000 protesters marched across France, according to CGT. Either the lowest number since the beginning of the movement. According to the union, 2.3 million people demonstrated the previous day, May 1. 1 million demonstrators had been identified by the CGT on April 13, during the 12th day of action (the lowest figure until Tuesday). For their part, the police indicate that 281,000 participants marched in France, or 100,000 people less than on April 13.
In Paris, 31,000 demonstrators were counted by the police headquarters. A figure down sharply from the 112,000 people present on May 1 and the 42,000 Parisian demonstrators on April 13, according to the authorities.
Same thing in the strongholds of protest: the figures are the lowest recorded in nearly five months. In Nantes, they were thus 8,600 according to the police, 20,000 according to the organizers – even lower than March 11, the low point of the movement until now. Same thing in Rennes, where 5,500 to 10,000 people marched, in Rouen (2,900 to 6,000), but also further south in Nice (1,700 to 6,500) and Perpignan (2,000 to 4,000).
A few cities slightly exceed their minimum gauges, but still follow the trend, such as Grenoble (5,000 to 10,000) and Le Havre (3,500 to 10,000). Despite this general decline, estimates still make the big difference in Toulouse (8,000 to 50,000) and Marseille (4,000 to 50,000).
Throughout France, the processions marched without notable incidents, except in Nantes and Paris, where some clashes were recorded at the end of the afternoon.
