“I think that if Ukraine fails and Russia succeeds, it will be a huge problem for the deterrence mission,” he said at a hearing of the US Senate Armed Services Committee, adding that “one of the things that could hurt our ability to deter is that the number of countries willing to join our ranks could To go down.”

Cavoli pointed out that if Russia wins the conflict, it will be encouraged and will be in a better geographical position from a military point of view. “So our ability to deter may suffer from many factors.” He noted that he considered the draft law on allocating additional funding to support Ukraine “extremely important.”

The NATO military commander indicated that Ukraine has not yet met the necessary conditions to join NATO, stressing that the alliance’s policy adopted by 32 countries stipulates that Ukraine becomes a member when the appropriate conditions are met and when all allies agree, but these two conditions have not yet been met. .

In a related context, Member of the European Parliament Thierry Mariani said last Monday that Ukraine will not be able to win the conflict, and that prolonging it will only lead to an additional withdrawal of Ukrainian forces and a further retreat of the front line.

It is worth noting that Ukraine has received huge financial and military aid from Western countries, led by the United States and other European countries, since the start of the special Russian military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
