Pentagon: The US Secretary of Defense is in the hospital again

“After a series of tests and evaluations, the Secretary was admitted to the intensive care unit at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center this evening for supportive care and close observation,” the statement said.

A few weeks ago, it turned out that 70-year-old L. Austin kept his previous hospitalizations a secret and did not immediately inform US President Joe Biden about his cancer diagnosis. The defense secretary has come under fire as the United States grapples with crises in the Middle East and Ukraine.

In December and January, L.Austin was basically out of the public eye for a while – first due to treatment for prostate cancer, and then due to complications from the procedure.

This time, the public was notified about two hours after L. Austin was sent to the hospital on Sunday afternoon. Just before 5 p.m. local (24 hours Lithuania) time, Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks took over the functions and duties of the head of defense, Pentagon spokesman Pat Ryderis said.

“It is unclear at this time how long Secretary Austin will be hospitalized,” said a recent statement issued by Drs. John Maddox and Gregory Chesnut of Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Maryland.

The current bladder problem should not change his prognosis for a full recovery, doctors said, adding that the prognosis for L. Austin’s cancer treatment also remains excellent.
