“People don’t need torn clothes, they need dignity” – La Discusión 2024-03-02 02:02:54

The Minister of Government Spokesperson, Camila Vallejo, called this Friday not to donate any more clothing in poor condition to those affected by the fires in the Valparaíso Region.

On the ground as part of the rubble removal and reconstruction work, the Secretary of State insisted that this solidarity window is not an “opportunity to get rid of garbage.”

He explained that more than six tons of clothing in poor condition had to be taken to landfills.

“In addition to all the work that public works, in coordination with the municipalities, have had to do with double shifts, 24-7 to remove debris, today we are having to remove clothing in poor condition,” Vallejo said.

The minister was emphatic that “people do not need torn clothes, they need dignity, and help also has to go hand in hand with that dignity so that, in addition to giving people dignity, it does not overload tasks that are already of great magnitude and that are involving “a great deployment of both workers and public officials.”

“We ask people who can and want to donate to deliver new underwear and shoes in good condition to the defined collection centers. Donating clothes is not the opportunity to get rid of garbage,” she added through his social networks.
