On the 17th, the People Power Party’s Innovation Committee announced ‘Innovation Plan No. 4’, which states that personnel from the President’s Office must also be nominated from the bottom up without exception.

Lee So-hee, a member of the innovation committee, met with reporters after a meeting at the company headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, and said, “We must have fair competition through bottom-up nominations,” and “Presidential office personnel will be no exception.”

He went on to say, “We will apply strict cutoff standards,” and added, “Anyone who has caused social controversy, tarnished the party’s reputation, or has a criminal record of imprisonment or higher will be excluded from nomination.”

When asked, “Does this mean there should be no strategic nomination at all?” Commissioner Lee responded, “Yes. “It excludes strategic nominations from all constituencies,” he said.

Innovation Committee member Kim Kyung-jin said, “When looking at a single constituency, strategic nomination may be necessary, but if the judgment on strategic nomination is wrong, there is a possibility of various controversies and noise, such as nomination,” and “Looking at the big picture, it is necessary to exclude strategic nomination at the source.” “We decided that going in this direction would be a much more advantageous path for the overall election,” he said.

Regarding the point that personnel appointments within the party may be advantageous, he said, “That is why we have asked the party’s senior leaders to make sacrifices, and regardless of the sacrifices, those who come down from the President’s Office may be given privileges in some cases, so nominations must be made in a bottom-up manner.” “It is simply an explanation of general principles,” he said.

Commissioner Kim said, “When the party nomination management committee is formed later, even if the term of the innovation committee has ended, we will explain the agenda in detail, thoroughly review the purpose, and ask it to be reflected when creating nomination-related regulations.”
