“Perfect Weather for Parents’ Day at Gusinobrodsky Cemetery: Paying Respect to Fallen Heroes”

2023-04-26 00:03:02

The weather in Novosibirsk on April 25 is perfect for Parents’ Day: no rain, fairly clear and windless. At the entrance to the Gusinobrodsky cemetery, a traffic police squad is on duty, not all cars are allowed through the gates. Free buses and minibuses travel unhindered: they enter the churchyard full, and return half-empty.

Next to the stele to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War, decorated with a huge St. George ribbon, which was reconstructed in 2021, a woman is crying. Her gaze is turned to the graves of the military – the stele is located in the “military” quarter of the cemetery, where military personnel have been buried for many years. On the graves are the flags of the units where the deceased served, and the wreaths on them are not only from relatives, but also from the Ministry of Defense. On some burials to the left of the stele (if you stand facing it), the date of death is included in the period of the SVO. There are no relatives of the weeping woman among the dead soldiers buried here.
