For several years now, the European road police network ROADPOL has been drawing the increased attention of road users to the fact that exceeding the permitted driving speed poses a danger both to the driver himself and to the surrounding road users.
Although the police control traffic rules on a daily basis, during the “Permissible speed control week”, the State Police will take greater care of traffic safety throughout the territory of Latvia and will monitor that road users observe the permitted speed. A 24-hour speed control marathon will be organized in one day as part of the ROADPOL promotion “Permissible speed control week”, which will take place on Friday, April 21, from 00.00 to 23.59
The police constantly observes that there are drivers who do not realize how dangerous the speed is – exceeding it reduces the possibility for the driver to notice and prevent the danger on the road in time. In 2022, State Police officers recorded 63,313 speed breakers. On the other hand, 72,974 violations were recorded with mobile photo radars, and 256,096 with stationary radars.
