Peter Nygard charged with sexual assault and forcible confinement in Montreal

Canadian fashion mogul Peter Nygard is charged with sexual assault and forcible confinement in Montreal. The facts would have taken place about twenty years ago, between November 1, 1997 and November 15, 1998.

The identity of the victim, an adult at the time of the events, is confidential.

The appearance of Peter Nygard is scheduled for Tuesday at the Montreal courthouse, said the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions. It should take place by videoconference.

The 80-year-old man has already been detained since his arrest in Winnipeg in December 2020.

He is accused of sexual assault in New York. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York had announced that nine counts have been filed against Peter Nygard, including those of racketeering and sex trafficking.

He also faces six counts of sexual assault and three counts of forcible confinement in Toronto.

Last week the Federal Minister of Justice David Lamettisaid he made the decision to authorize the extradition of Peter Nygard to the United States, once the legal proceedings have been completed in Canada.
