Peter Sagan added a new victory to his long record on Tuesday, dominating the sprint of the third stage of the Tour de Suisse. In the tortuous final at Grenchen, the Slovak surprised Alexander Kristoff by starting 300m from the line. Starting a little late, Bryan Coquard (Cofidis), offers himself a second place ahead of the Norwegian from Intermarché – Wanty-Gobert.
Before the sprint, most of the day had been animated by a breakaway led by Stefan Bissegger (EF Education). But the Swiss, last to surrender, 10 km from the finish, never managed to threaten the peloton.
Stephen Williams (Bahrain Victorious) is still leading the general standings, ahead of Andreas Kron (Lotto-Soudal), Andreas Leknessund (Team DSM) and Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers). Second at the start of the third stage, Maximilian Schachmann (Bora-Hansgrohe) left more than 50 seconds in a fall 4 km from the finish. Thibaut Pinot (Groupama – FDJ), in preparation for the Tour de France, finished almost 3 minutes behind the peloton.
On Wednesday, Sagan will have another opportunity to add a line to his list, the profile of the fourth stage, between Granges and Brunnen (191 km), offering a favorable profile for sprinters.
