Petit Biscuit left his mark on music. The 23-year-old Frenchman, seen in a number of festivals in French-speaking Switzerland and who had performed a wild concert at Paléo, is one of the champions of electro-chill. His greatest success, single “Sunset Lover” (released in 2018), is approaching 800 million plays on Spotify. The producer has since released two albums. The next one is in production and will surprise many. You are going to present a new show in Lausanne…
Yes. There are always basics, like my pads. I wanted to keep them because it’s something people have associated me with since I started. It’s my old-fashioned paw! (Laugh.) However, today I incorporate many other instruments. The scenography is also more minimalist. The goal is to try to think of this live instrumental as a film.
Another surprise, you sing from now on.
Completely! On all my summer dates, people were surprised to see me singing from the first song. It’s cool, I’m happy to still be able to surprise people with my new artistic direction. I fell in love with singing.
Is this something that you have always done and that you didn’t dare to put forward?
It’s exactly that. I always tried to sing, but I considered that I did not have the necessary level or the experience. When I felt I was technically good enough, I went for it. I gave myself time to rework – or throw away – the pieces written in recent years. In music, sometimes you have to be patient! I’m young and music has evolved a lot since I started.
When will your third album arrive?
It is expected to be released in 2023 again. I don’t have a specific date. I try to take the time. I want to offer interesting content around each single and refine all the visuals. I love working on images as much as I do on music.
Was it voluntary and necessary to disappear from circulation for almost three years like you did?
Yes. I had a lot of plans for 2020, but Covid threw them all out the window. This break served me differently: I focused on my private life. It did me a lot of good, I had problems to solve. There, I am ready to come back stronger than ever.
