Peugeot e-3008: Disappointment as Release of Highly Anticipated Long Autonomy Version Delayed Until 2025

If the new electric Peugeot e-3008 has just been unveiled, this new generation arrives with a big disappointment. Indeed, the most anticipated version equipped with the large battery will not see the light of day before 2025.

There’s been a lot going on at Peugeot lately. Indeed, the lion brand must comply with the requirements of the European Union and prepare to become a 100% electric brand. Which will precisely be the case from 2030, five years before the deadline imposed by Brussels.

Great autonomy

The firm currently offers several electric models in its range, namely the recently restyled e-208 which we were able to discover as well as the e-2008, which we took the wheel of a few months earlier. But Peugeot has also recently marketed the e-308 and is preparing the imminent arrival of the electric 408. But that’s not all, because other new products are also arriving in the catalog.

Among them, the brand new Peugeot e-3008, which we had the chance to preview during its official reveal. This 3rd generation is the very first to have a 100% electric engine, although it will also be available as a plug-in hybrid and pure thermal in certain countries, with the same STLA Medium platform. But not in France which will only market electrified variants.

This new generation will then be available in three versions, with two or four-wheel drive. But the most interesting remains the Long Autonomy variant, which displays an incredible figure of 700 kilometers of autonomy according to the WLTP cycle. A figure which, however, remains to be taken with a pinch of salt, and which we will verify in a future, slightly more detailed test. Regardless, this is made possible by the large battery with 98 kWh net capacity (104 kWh gross) using NMC (nickel – manganese – cobalt) technology.

A chemistry which has the advantage of offering a density greater than that of LFP packs (lithium – iron – phosphate), but with a higher cost. Obviously, we can’t wait to see this version arrive on the road. But we will have to be patient. And for good reason, the journalists of‘Argusannounce that the latter will not in fact be launched before the start of 2025, during the first quarter. That’s in a little over a year, at least.

More than adequate autonomy

Information which, however, has not yet been confirmed by the manufacturer, which we were able to contact and which declares for its part do not yet have details to communicate For now. But this information is entirely plausible, while a spokesperson informed us that the cells used by the e-3008 would be provided by ACC (Automotive Cell Company) and produced in France.

However, the factory which will be located in the North of France is not yet ready at the moment. The first examples of the electric SUV will therefore use batteries of Chinese origin, manufactured by a subsidiary of the number 2 electric vehicle, BYD. No doubt the brand wants to wait until the French company is 100% operational, in order to equip its long autonomy version. But for now, nothing has yet been officially confirmed by the manufacturer.

The standard version of the Peugeot e-3008 will have a 73 KWh battery and will display a range of 525 kilometers. For the record, its main rival, the new Renault Scénic E-Tech is limited to 620 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle with its 87 kWh net (90 kWh gross) battery. A figure which obviously varies depending on many parameters, including the use of certain equipment. The lion electric SUV can be recharged in around thirty minutes at a power of 160 kWwhile it ignores the 800 volt architecture.

For the moment, its price has not yet been announced. It remains to be hoped that the latter is located below 47,00 euros, so that the car is eligible for the ecological bonus of 5,000 euros. However, nothing is less certain regarding the long autonomy version. The SUV will officially be launched in February 2024 with its 73 kWh battery.
