MONTREAL — In turn, pharmacist owners in Quebec are seeing a worrying rise in cases of respiratory viruses and faced with the overflow that prevails in hospital emergency rooms, they point out that they are able to vaccinate the population.

The Quebec Association of Pharmacist Owners (AQPP) thus adds its voice to that of public authorities to invite Quebecers to be vaccinated against COVID-19, influenza or respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).

The president of the Association, Benoit Morin, reports that since the start of the fall vaccination campaign, more than a million doses of vaccines against influenza and COVID-19 have been administered in pharmacies.

He deplores that according to recent data from the Ministry of Health and Social Services, approximately 50% of people aged 70 and over have still not made an appointment or have not received a new COVID vaccine -19 or influenza.

Benoit Morin reminds that vaccines against COVID-19 and influenza are free for all and that patients can make an appointment to benefit from them on the Clic Santé portal or on their own pharmacy’s website.

The Association adds that other vaccines are available in pharmacies, such as that against pneumococcus, available for people aged 65 and over, and against respiratory syncytial virus which is aimed at people aged 60 and over, but which does not is not covered.
