Two men and a woman who allegedly attempted to shoplift at a Walmart in Philadelphia abandoned a three-month-old girl in the store before fleeing, several American media report.
Last Thursday evening, the three alleged thieves were first arrested by Walmart security. They then quickly left the store, leaving the baby behind.
Police were called to the business around 11 p.m. The girl was quickly transported to hospital where doctors assessed her. They announced that the child was in good health.
The baby was handed over to the authorities responsible for youth protection.
The parents were then identified and contacted. These would have no connection with the alleged shoplifting. The link between the three suspects and the child has not been established by authorities.
An investigation has been opened, but no charges have been filed so far.
