Authorities in the Philippines announced on Wednesday a 381% increase in the number of cases of chikungunya, which is transmitted through mosquito bites.

The Philippine ABS-CBN network reported that the authorities recorded 2,854 cases of the disease between January and November of this year, compared to only 593 cases recorded in the same period last year.

The authorities have not recorded any deaths from the disease, which is similar to dengue fever and Zika virus patients, and its symptoms include fever, muscle pain, headache, fatigue, vomiting, and skin rash.
