PHOENIX, Arizona – A 22-year-old Phoenix woman was sentenced to one year in prison for recruiting human traffickers through social media.

Destiney Rae Montoya was sentenced last week in federal court following she pleaded guilty to conspiracy to transport undocumented aliens for profit, according to the Arizona Federal Tax.

Prosecutors said Montoya recruited drivers through social media to transport migrants within the United States following they entered the country irregularly.

Montoya’s crime included an increased sentence, as investigators determined that she was the coordinator of the operation.
