But today it was a completely different natural phenomenon that caught Arturs Pirazkov’s sharp lens.
On Sunday afternoon, the sun could be spotted off the top of Hirtshals Lighthouse, which in itself is a remarkable construction. And the subject only became even more beautiful when a ring of light appeared around the sun and the lighthouse in the almost cloudless sky.
– This is the first time I’ve seen it, says Arturs Pirazkov enthusiastically, a ring of light has been seen around the moon before, but never around the sun.
Asked locals for advice
The photo enthusiast regularly shares his pictures of the harsh nature in Hirtshals with citizens in the Facebook group “Hjørring pictures new and old”, and today was no exception when he uploaded the picture, which can be seen at the top of this article.
“I don’t know what this phenomenon is called correctly, but it turned out beautiful,” he captioned the photo.
However, other Facebook users were quick to react, and several suggested that it may be the natural phenomenon of the halo.
According to the DMI, a halo is a luminous ring that, under the right conditions, you can be lucky enough to see around either the sun or the moon.

Ice crystals usually appear when there is a very thin layer of clouds in the sky, like in Arturs Pirazkov’s picture.
