Photovoltaic panels, a controversial hidden side

To illustrate our point, a short detour via Evere, in the Brussels Region. Here, a family, like many others in Belgium, has decided to install solar panels on its roof, and thus hopes to limit its carbon footprint, while achieving significant savings.

Meghan Richil is responsible for Energyvision, a green energy provider in Brussels: “A key figure: it is necessary to estimate, according to its consumption, at more or less 40% the reduction in its electricity bill thanks to the solar panels.”

And since the installation offered here is 100% free, it really looks like a good plan. But when you scratch a little, you quickly discover the behind the scenes of solar energy. We asked Mrs. Richil the question:

– I saw your slogan which said “100% free energy, 100% made in Brussels.” But these panels, they do not come from Brussels?

“In fact, it is above all the energy that is produced in Brussels. The panels come from China.”
