On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Hospital Clinical Research Program (PHRC), the Ministry of Labor, Health and Solidarity presented, on January 18, 2024, an assessment of the scientific results and impact and addressed the issues at stake. come.
Remember that the Hospital Clinical Research Program (PHRC) has been setting the milestones for applied research in French health for 30 years by meeting a triple objective:
– boost hospital clinical research with a view to promoting medical progress;
– participate in improving the quality of care through the evaluation of new diagnostic and therapeutic methods;
– scientifically validate new medical knowledge with a view to identifying therapeutic innovations and implementing dissemination strategies in the health system.
Each year, by circular, the General Directorate for Healthcare Supply (DGOS) launches a call for research projects allowing hospital teams to submit applications to obtain funding within the available envelope.
Review of projects between 2012 and 2019
Nadia Aissaoui, medical advisor at the DGOS, presented the results of the projects between 2012 (year of administrative simplification of applications) and 2019 (before the Covid crisis).

– 11% on medical devices and 17% on procedures;
– 65% of projects focus on an adult population, 15% on geriatrics, 11% on pediatrics and 8% on all ages of life;
– 8% of projects include the participation of foreign organizations and 28% that of industrialists;
– 71% belong to a research network.
What regarding research programs in psychiatry
Dr Amandine Luquiens (Nîmes University Hospital) presented the Impact of the PHRC on patient care: in psychiatry.
– from 2012 to 2919: 68 projects financed for €34,471,206;

At the end of this exploration of PHRCs, there is still much to explore: revised methods of investigation and inclusion, integration of artificial intelligence, interaction with manufacturers, clinical trials in primary care, financing model, etc. support for the hospital clinical research program has been renewed, see you in a few years for the next review!
