Pierre Gasly believes he has taken a big step on the grid by choosing the Alpine F1 Team. He said he believes he can fight for podiums and wins once more as part of the factory team.
In 2023, Pierre Gasly will move from Scuderia AlphaTauri to Alpine F1 Team. With the Alpine F1 Team, Pierre Guthrie joins the factory team for the first time (excluding six months at Toro Rosso Honda and Red Bull Honda in 2018).
The factory team can fully tune the engine to their car. Pierre Gasly believes it has paid off compared to customer teams like Scuderia AlphaTauri.
“Given the possibilities, there has never been a more attractive seat,” Gasly told Auto, Motor und Sport.
“They’re fighting in the top end of the midfield. Both cars are consistent. The team is developing the car very well. Every time they bring in new parts, they’re making progress. Factory and There is a very good correlation between the tracks and I see a lot of potential.”
Pierre Gasly also noted that he is in frequent contact with people at Alpine and Renault. Indeed, Gasly is interested in the extent to which Renault supports the F1 team.
“They’re totally in favor of it. They want Alpine to fight for the top spot. They’ll do whatever it takes to come out on top. Joining felt like a natural step for me,” commented Pierre Gasly.
For Pierre Gasly, 2023 will take some time getting used to the new car at first. After years of driving AlphaTauri, he now has to get used to his new team, new car and new teammates. In particular, his relationship with teammate Esteban Ocon has attracted attention.
