Pilot of a crashed military aircraft dies in Ecuador’s Amazon

Quito.- The pilot of a military plane that crashed the previous week in the Amazon of Ecuador died this Friday from injuries caused by the accident, the Ecuadorian Army reported.

“Army Aviation Lieutenant Marlon Fernando Suárez González died at the Hospital of Specialties Armed Forces No. 1,” the entity said in a statement, noting that the death occurred this morning.

He explained that the officer suffered considerable injuries during the plane crash of the Cessna 206 plane, which occurred last Friday, December 24, 2021, in the Loracachi sector, the Amazon province of Pastaza (southeast), bordering Peru.

The aircraft was reported missing when it did not reach its destination while it was carrying out the mission of bringing supplies to the Lorocachi detachment.

It was located hours later by a couple of military helicopters who found it crashed in the trees.

According to the initial report, the two crew members, an Army officer pilot and copilot, were rescued alive, although Suárez could not walk on his own.

Both were transferred to the military hospital in Quito.

The Army has not provided information regarding the health of the other crew member.
