Belcarra, County Mayo – The community is in mourning following the death of PJ Gavin, a well-known and respected resident of Gortaruaun, Belcarra, Castlebar, and late of Leitir, Islandeady. After a short illness bravely fought, PJ Gavin passed away peacefully on June 18th, 2025, in the intensive care unit of the galway Clinic, surrounded by his loving family.

PJ Gavin was predeceased by his parents,Martin and Margaret Gavin (Leitir,Islandeady),and his infant sister Catherine. He is survived by his heartbroken wife, Eileen (née O’Donnell), his daughters Zara and Jenny, his son James, and his grandsons Senan and Leo. He will be deeply missed by his father-in-law Jim, mother-in-law Maura, his sisters Noreen (Staunton, Castlebar), Eileen (Corcoran, Westport), Mary (Hanbury, Castlebar), Teresa (Garrivan, Westport), Anne (Gallagher, Westport), Pauline (Sloan, England), Margaret (Holland, Westport), Joan (Kenny, Castlebar), and his brothers James (Gavin, Westport) and Martin (Gavin, Leitir).
His loss is also felt by his brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, son-in-law, aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives, neighbors, and a wide circle of friends.

PJ will repose in Belcarra Community Center on Friday, June 20th, from 4pm, with removal at 6.30pm to his residence. The funeral cortege will arrive at St. Anne’s Church, Belcarra, on Saturday, June 21st, at 10.15am for Requiem Mass at 11am. Following the Mass, PJ will be laid to rest in Guesdian Cemetery, belcarra.
