Plane crashes in jungle, three dead and four children missing

Rescuers found only the bodies of the pilot in the aircraft, plus those of two adults nearby. Food and a bottle were recovered not far from the crash site.

Thanks to the natives, the rescuers found the aircraft upright in the middle of the jungle, its nose crushed to the ground.

Intense searches are underway to find four children after the crash of a small plane in early May in the Colombian jungle. The accident caused the death of the pilot and two adults, including the children’s mother, authorities and the airline announced on Tuesday.

The plane disappeared from radar on May 1, in full flight over the Amazon jungle, near San José del Guaviare, in the department of Caqueta, civil aviation said, adding that the lifeless body of the pilot was was found Monday, “inside the plane”, then those of the two other adults very close to there. The “other occupants, four minors, were not found in the aircraft or in its surroundings”.

The military posted photos of the Cessna 206 on Twitter. They show the aircraft vertically in the middle of the jungle, its nose crushed to the ground.

A chewed fruit found

Soldiers who went in search of the survivors, helped by natives of the communities close to the accident site and sniffer dogs, discovered a chewed fruit and personal effects, including a bottle which would belong to one of the four minors, a baby 11 months old.

“The military forces and all the entities taking part in the research remain hopeful and are concentrating all their efforts to find the four other occupants of the plane alive”, assures the civil aviation.
