Plane crash in Greece: All crew members recovered

Investigation and recovery work is ongoing on the cargo plane that crashed in north-eastern Greece on Saturday. The daily newspaper Kathimerini reported today that the military and rescue workers worked through the night at the scene of the accident.

The last of the eight crew members was also recovered last night. All are Ukrainians, which was also confirmed by the Ukrainian consul in Thessaloniki.

The machine of the type Antonow An-12 of a Ukrainian airline took off from Nis in Serbia on Saturday and had 11.5 tons of ammunition on board. The country of destination was Bangladesh, the buyer of the ammunition was the Bangladesh Ministry of Defense, as the Serbian Defense Minister announced.

Over the northern Aegean, the pilot reported engine problems and requested an emergency landing in Kavala. However, the machine did not make it there – about 30 kilometers away it crashed into a field.
