Hundreds of rescuers are currently at the scene of the accident on the mountainside in the Pokhara region of central Nepal. Rescue efforts focused on putting out the fire and finding victims.

Earlier, a spokesman for Yeti Airlines said the ill-fated plane was carrying 68 passengers and four crew members. Among those on board were five Indians, four Russians, one Irishman, two South Koreans, one Australian, one French and one Argentinian. Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal called an emergency cabinet meeting following the incident.

Air accidents are not uncommon in Nepal, home to eight of the world’s 14 highest mountains, including Everest, as the weather can change dramatically and create dangerous conditions.
