The 23-year-old folk singer, Flor Sheyza Quispe Sucapuca, known as “Muñequita Milly”, died last Wednesday, April 3. Her family and lawyers point to Dr. Víctor Barriga Fong as responsible for her death, who allegedly committed malpractice on her. This is not the only case of alleged negligence in which Barriga Fong, known for having been the surgeon of several artists, is involved.

In mid-2023, the actress and dancer Maricielo Effio reported that the doctor had performed malpractice on her abdomen in the middle of a mini abdominoplasty, an intervention that consists of the removal of minimal or moderate excess skin, along with the removal of excess fat, in which liposuction techniques are used. However, to date this surgeon has not received any type of sanction that prevents him from practicing.

Before a consultation, it is important to meet your specialist. For this reason, we have created a search engine in which you can verify if your doctor has been ultimately sanctioned for any disciplinary reason, or if he or she is authorized or not by the Medical College of Peru (CMP) to practice as a plastic surgeon.

According to data from the National Civil Service Authority (Servir), to date there are nine doctors, specialized in plastic and reconstructive surgery, who have ultimately received some type of sanction for various reasons, between 2014 and 2023. Only in these cases are they obliged to comply with their sanction. The cases belong to the regions of Lima (4), Callao (1), Áncash (1), Ica (1), Lambayeque (1) and La Libertad (1). Five of the sentenced surgeons worked in hospitals of the Ministry of Health and four in EsSalud. Sanctions range from eight days of suspension to dismissal. Two of the doctors were suspended twice, while two other specialists, one from Ica and another from La Libertad, were dismissed.

On the other hand, there are doctors specialized in plastic and reconstructive surgery who are not qualified by the CMP. In total, 87 professionals are disabled or sanctioned.

It is important to remember that no doctor can practice or sign prescriptions without this certificate, which certifies that he or she complies with national and international standards for medical practice in his or her specialty. This certification can be lost due to dismissal, reprimand for non-compliance with ethics regulations or failure to update payments to the CMP.

Your health is not a game. Check our plastic surgeon search engine and verify if your specialist is sanctioned and/or disabled. Keep in mind that if you cannot find it, it is because it is not registered as a plastic surgery specialist by the CMP and should not practice as such.
